Project Overview

The reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road, Aba is progressing as scheduled, with significant portions already completed. The project spans 5.7 km, featuring a three-lane carriageway, and includes the rehabilitation of Asa Road with a new binder and wearing course over 1.1 km, complete with street lighting.

According to the project manager, Christian Kloepfel, ongoing work focuses on earthworks, stormwater control, and drainage systems, particularly at the Enugu-Port Harcourt highway junction.

Community Engagement and Employment

A key aspect of the project is its commitment to local engagement and economic development. Seventeen security personnel from the Aba community were employed to enhance site safety while providing job opportunities. Hiring locally not only strengthens security but also fosters positive community relations.

Additionally, a local indigene was appointed as the Public Relations Officer, improving communication between the project team and residents. This approach builds trust, mitigates social risks, and aligns with best practices in sustainable project management.

Sustainable Waste Management

The project management team prioritized environmentally responsible waste disposal by engaging local stakeholders. Through open consultations, an agreement was reached to use a designated dump site for construction waste, ensuring transparency and environmental protection.
