The Lagos State Government announced on Wednesday that it will revoke unoccupied housing units allotted to subscribers who have been without a home for more than 2 years.

This announcement was made in a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos by Mr. Ganiu Lawal, Director, Public Affairs Unit, Housing Commissioner. Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai.

Akinderu-Fatai made this statement while visiting a Lagos State Housing Estate in Sangotedo, Lekki, to carry out Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s order.

According to him, the state government would provide these apartments to people who needed a place to live.

“Lagos State Government Housing Units are intended for those who genuinely need them, not for speculators,” stated Akinderu-Fatai. The wealthy few’s interests will not come at the expense of the Sanwo-Olu-led administration’s numerous initiatives to expand the state’s housing stock;

“Why should allotted apartments remain vacant after two years if applying for a Rent-To-Own scheme assumes the allottee is in dire need of housing?”

He maintained that vacant apartments might cause the infrastructure of the housing complex to be neglected and deteriorate.

According to the commissioner, the revocation was made because the government wants to ensure that housing resources are distributed fairly to those needing them.

He stated that the units would be redistributed to qualified individuals and that allottees who paid in full would be given refunds.

He stated that the ministry would reimburse these allottees and redistribute the housing units to other citizens who are prepared to move in immediately.

To prevent revocation, Akinderu-Fatai emphasized the significance of occupying allotted units within three months.

Through several measures, he stated the government’s commitment to expanding the housing stock in the state. NAN
