A grand Georgian townhouse in the heart of Marylebone, spanning over 13,200 square feet, has just hit the rental market for an eye-watering £112,000 (approx. $145,000) per month—or a staggering N225 million. Owned by Serena Rees, co-founder of the luxury lingerie brand Agent Provocateur, this historic home has long been a hub for London’s most exclusive parties.
The five-story property, which has seen centuries of glamorous gatherings, was also the birthplace of renowned British biochemist Rosalind Pitt-Rivers, who made groundbreaking discoveries about thyroid hormones. Now, its current owner, Rees, is ready to pass the torch.
A Legendary Party House
Rees has carried on the tradition of extravagant entertaining. “We’ve had infamous parties here, which have been covered by the press, with most of the top models in the fashion world and top musicians,” she says. While she keeps her guest list under wraps, reports have linked Kate Moss’s iconic 30th birthday afterparty to this very address.
Now, Rees has listed the home for rent with Daniel Daggers at DDRE Global, and for the right offer, she may even consider selling—though she remains tight-lipped on an exact price.
“I’ve had 25 wonderful years here—maybe it’s the end of my era,” she reflects. “It’s just me and my dachshund, Peanut, now that my daughter has grown up and moved out.”
A Home Steeped in History
Built in the 1700s, the townhouse is a masterpiece of period architecture, with original marble fireplaces, intricately carved stair railings, and ornate painted ceilings that wouldn’t look out of place in an episode of Bridgerton.
“The ceilings are as they were in the period. We have the same paint colors—I even worked with a paint historian,” Rees reveals. She affectionately calls one of the living rooms the “Ice Cream Room” for its soft pastel hues.
The five-story layout is designed for both grandeur and functionality. The basement houses a self-contained studio with a kitchen—ideal for staff—alongside a private home gym. The ground floor boasts a spacious reception hall, an open-plan kitchen, and a separate chef’s kitchen, as well as a lush plant-filled terrace, a rare find in central London.
On the first floor, two grand reception rooms—perfect for lavish soirées—sit alongside two home offices, a much-coveted feature in the work-from-home era. The primary suite, located on the second floor, is a sanctuary of luxury, complete with an expansive dressing room that Rees personally designed.
“I’ve probably designed over a hundred retail stores worldwide, and I know how you want to see clothes and access them,” she says. “I had great fun designing my own dressing room.”
Above, the third floor offers five guest bedrooms, many with en-suite bathrooms, plus a cozy sitting room. A mezzanine level tops it all off, featuring a secluded library.
A Prime Marylebone Location
Nestled on a tranquil street, the home is just a seven-minute walk from Oxford Street station and a short stroll to Regent’s Park. Rees has watched Marylebone transform over the years.
“Marylebone wasn’t quite as smart, as fashionable as it is now when I came here 25 years ago. It was really handy for the dentist and the doctor, but that was it,” she recalls. “But now it’s incredible.”
These days, she and Peanut enjoy the area’s weekly farmer’s market and its charming independent shops.
Who Will Be the Next Owner?
Rees envisions the house suiting a large family or a creative spirit who thrives on hosting unforgettable gatherings. But she’s ready to move on.
“I’ve been lucky to be here and enjoy this house for so long,” she says. “There are, of course, other really big houses in London—but they’re not built by Robert Adam.”
